6 Ergonomic Products We Can't Live Without

There are tools of the trade for every profession, and thankfully, for the office associate, these tools are all about comfort! Finding the right ergonomic furniture to suit your needs can seem like a daunting challenge, but by following our hit-list of must have ergonomic office products, you'll be prepared and primed to get the job done. Enjoy!

1.) Chair

The chair is the powerhouse of office comfort. As the central place where office associates work from, chairs need to be comfortable, maneuverable, and flexible to their owners' individual needs. Adding affordable ergonomic office chairs to the workplace is often the best decision a boss can make. By choosing chairs with low-cost upholsteries like mesh, adding adjustable comfort to the workplace is more lucrative. Some ergonomic chairs allow users to adjust head rests, arm rests, tension, and even lumbar height. All these traits and more combine to create an indispensable piece of equipment no office should be without.

2.) Foot Rest

When considering the needs of the average office worker, the feet are too often taken for granted. However, if you're one of the thousands wondering why you have leg pain when you've been sitting at a desk all day, the feet are the most likely culprit. In an office chair, when the feet don't touch the floor, it puts stress on the backs of the legs. This cuts off circulation to the lower extremities and contributes to that aching feeling at the end of the day. Shorter individuals often suffer from this dilemma, but with a quality ergonomic foot rest, like the affordable FR-1 Symmetry, to promote comfort, improved posture is only a step away!
* Some high end office foot rests even have massage features to promote movement and blood flow that reduces blood clots.

3.) Monitor Arm

Can't get rid of that knot in your neck muscles? Well, the culprit may be simpler than you think. Often, office worker who complain of neck or upper back pain don't realize it's due to the placement of their computer screen. Ergonomic experts agree that twisting one's head around multiple times a day to look at a computer is terrible for posture and health. Repeated head turning and staring over the shoulder at a computer can cause uneven muscle strength in the neck and shoulders, causing terrible pain.

By adding an adjustable monitor arm to the office, moving the computer screen to the right place - about arm's length away from the face - is a snap. Monitor arms give computers adjustability so users can move them where they are needed. As an added plus, the arms keep the computer off the desk, providing a clean, high tech feel!

4.) Mobile Computer Station

For office workers on the move, nothing is a better gift than a mobile computer station! Traveling office associates, professors, and even school teachers can all stand to gain from a mobile computer station. Adjustable heights and casters make presentations a cinch. They can even serve as makeshift lecterns in a time of need. Models like the WOW01 ESI mobile computer station help to maximize office space through compact design, making it a perfect choice for educational and healthcare settings.

5.) Height Adjustable Desk

It's no secret that health experts have taken a degrading view of office chairs in recent years. Some even go so far as to accuse office chairs of being "the new cigarettes," because they promote a lifestyle with poor health benefits. Unfortunately, many who have tried to battle the seated office lifestyle by standing  have discovered that being on one's feet all day is not the best decision. While continuously seated office work can result in poor posture, weight gain, and poor blood flow, continuously standing at work can cause terrible leg pain, varicose veins, and makes the blood work harder to pump itself up from the legs.

That is why height adjustable desks are the new office health trend! By choosing an affordable sit-to-stand desk, office workers can alternate their time between sitting and standing to achieve the most health benefits from both activities, resulting in better focus, reduced pain, toned muscles, and better posture!

6.) Keyboard Tray

Arthritis, wrist pain, carpal tunnel… all these things can be worsened by improper typing. Sure, you might not be making any grammatical errors, but the placement of one's wrists while writing can be detrimental to health and productivity in the workplace. Ergonomic experts tend to agree that the proper way to type in an office setting is by keeping the arms at right angles, with elbows, wrists, and hands parallel. Typing with one's hands curled over a desk or keyboard, higher or lower than the elbow can cause poor circulation and pain. For many, shopping discount keyboard trays for sale is the perfect solution. These simple pieces of equipment mount under desks on sliding arms to stay arm-level with the user. Some are even equipped with mouse pads and tilting capabilities to maximize ergonomic quality.

Design Like The Pros: 5 Key Rules To Follow for Office Makeover Success

Professional Office Interior
Creating a stylish, functional, and effective workspace doesn't have to be a hassle! By following the 5 key rules highlighted in today's post you'll be ready to start your project with confidence and design like the pros. Enjoy!

1.) Measure Twice, Cut Once

Any design professional will tell you that the key to a successful makeover project is effective space planning. Before you rush out and start purchasing cool modern office desks and chairs for your interiors, take the time to measure properly. Obtain the dimensions of your room with a simple tape measurer and be sure to take note of all power outlets, windows, and entry ways. Once you've got your dimensions, do a double check to ensure you've made no mistakes. Plot your dimensions out on a sheet of scale paper and you'll be ready to start the design process. Always remember, measure twice and cut once!

2.) Comfort Comes First

You may have the most stylish office space on the planet, but if it's uncomfortable you won't be able to operate at your peak performance levels. Good designers put a primary emphasis on comfort as it's the key to workplace success. When designing your space, don't just shop for style! Be sure to test out different ergonomic computer chairs and desk designs to determine what will work best for your specific needs. Style is important and will help you make a lasting impression on your guests, but if you can't operate comfortably your space will surely be lacking!

3.) Evolve with The Trends

When designing your office space you'll want to research the industries latest trends. This year gray wood tones, white leather office chairs, and plug and play furniture have all been incredibly popular. During the design process, do your best to integrate trends you feel best represent your business personality. Following the trends will ensure you space looks up to date and ready to impress your valued clientele. As trends in the office world are always evolving, don't be afraid to contact your dealer of choice to inquire about what product lines are hot!

4.) Inspiration Counts

You can't design the space of your dreams if you're not inspired! That being said, finding inspiration for your project is much easier than you're probably thinking. Take a day to visit a couple furniture showrooms in your local area, browse the web for cool office interiors, and go out to visit surrounding business. Create a folder on your computer to house all the pics and notes you take for your project. Once you've done your inspiration homework, review all the awesome ideas you've come up with in your folder and you'll be ready to roll!

5.) The Difference Is In The Details

All good designers know that the little details make the biggest difference. Adding room accents like area rugs, cool lighting fixtures, and ergonomic accessories will take your interiors to the next level. Boost your appeal and functionality simultaneously by adding accents that serve multiple purposes. Dual screen monitor arms will add a techy look and also create more usable desk space for you to operate with. You don't have to add all your room accents and accessories at once! Build your space and improve it over time. This will help you maximize your budget and will also allow you the time needed to properly assess areas where comfort and functionality can be improved.

A Day In The Life Of A Productive Office Worker

How To Be Productive At Work
Looking to become more productive and efficient around the office? Today's post is just for you! Here we'll review a well rounded work day and all of it's key elements. From getting a good nights rest to finishing the day out strong, we'll walk you through the tips and good habits necessary to reach your peak potential.

Every solid work day starts with a good nights rest. If you don't get your full 8 hours, the odds are you're feeling groggy and possibly even irritable. That being said, a day in the life of a productive office worker actually kicks off with a solid bed time the night before. You can't be at your best if you've stayed up eating snacks and watching late night movies!

Once a productive worker wakes up, they make breakfast priority one. As a solid breakfast is the foundation for a quality day, this step is an absolute must. Eating a healthy breakfast will provide you with the energy you need to start your day on the right foot. While coffee is no doubt the life blood of the office, pounding back multiple cups is not a recipe for good health. Try eating some yogurt, tasty breakfast shake, or even a piece of fruit. You'll be far more productive if you do!

When any productive worker hits the office, they know it's time to make a plan for the day. They take the time to outline goals to accomplish at various times of the day. They strategize and prioritize tasks to remain focused. A day in the life of a productive office worker means minimizing distractions, sticking to a game plan, and being ready for the curve balls any given day may throw their way. Create a daily, weekly, and monthly goals list and start knocking them off one by one!

You simply can't be productive in the office if your uncomfortable. Any truly productive office worker will tell you that a commitment to good ergonomic habits is a must. The most productive workers adjust their ergonomic task chairs regularly in order to maintain good posture and operate efficiently. The productive worker makes use of valuable ergonomic tools like foot rests, monitor arms, articulating keyboard trays and more to help reduce fatigue and body strain. Educate yourself on the benefits of your ergonomics and asses your personal workplace needs. Integrate the products you feel will best aid your top areas of discomfort and become more productive as a result!

When it's time for lunch, the productive worker doesn't chow down on a greasy burger and fries. They eat healthy and provide their bodies with the energy needed to get through the home stretch. As salads and low cal lunches can become boring over time, the productive worker takes the time to research healthy meals they can make in advance to avoid expensive lunches at local restaurants. Eating healthy at lunch will also help you to avoid the dreaded mid day nap you'll no doubt want to take after 4 slices of pizza, a coke, and too many breadsticks!

Once the productive worker is back behind the desk after eating a healthy lunch, they commit to a strong finish. They review their daily plan and tackle the tasks left on the days list. Before leaving the office they make sure to organize their computer desk and put files back in order. The productive worker knows that being productive on a daily basis means coming into a workspace that's ready to rock and roll the next day. As the productive worker has made good habits a priority, they head home, enjoy time with family, decompress, and prepare to start the routine over effectively the following day!

6 Ways To Conquer Fatigue In The Workplace

Fatigue At Work
Fatigue is an all to common office epidemic that's been plaguing workers for years. In today's post we'll share 6 helpful tips sure to help you conquer fatigue in the workplace. From eating healthy to collaborating with your team, we're ready to help you defeat fatigue for good!

1.) Eat Healthy

A well rounded breakfast is the foundation for productivity and efficiency in the office. As all good work days start with a healthy breakfast, it's important to kick of your morning with this essential step. Eating vegetables and fruits in the morning will provide you with the energy you need to tackle your daily tasks without becoming fatigued. In addition, you'll want to eat a healthy lunch that provides you with the energy you need to get through those long afternoon stretches. We can't pound down burgers and fries and expect to be energized when we get back behind our office desks to work. Consider a well rounded lunch that won't leave you feeling groggy. Forming these good eating habits in the workplace will have you better equipped to tackle fatigue that could otherwise be self inflicted by skipping breakfast and eating poor quality lunches.

2.)  Practice Good Posture

It's a must to form good posture habits in the workplace. Poor posture will have you operating at a slower rate and fatigued in no time. That being said practicing good posture habits will improve your blood flow and reduce body stressors commonly plaguing us throughout the work day. When it comes to workplace posture, good habits start with the chair. Adjust your seating regularly to find your optimal working position. Try to maintain a good working angle and keep your back in contact with the chair at all times. You'll also want to make use of your chair armrests, head rest, and lumbar support to help you operate in posture perfect positions. Don't settle for poor posture. If you do, you could be causing your body serious harm that could otherwise be avoided. Place reminders and tips around your desk to ensure you have these habits on the brain while working. Studies have shown that workers with these reminders around the office work more effectively and comfortably. When combined, fatigue doesn't stand a chance!

3.) Go Ergo

We've all heard about workplace ergonomics and it's benefits. But have you taken the time to evaluate your office needs? If fatigue is a factor you deal with regularly, consider adding ergonomic tools designed to help! Ergonomic monitor arms, foot rests, articulating keyboard trays, height adjustable workstations, and the modern ergonomic chairs avalable in 2015 all work together to create more functional work environments built around tackling fatigue and keeping your comfy. Once you've selected the ergonomic products you feel will best benefit your daily needs, take the time to master your products to get the most out of them. Adding the best ergonomic chair on the market to your office won't mean much if you don't know how to use it properly. Workers who make a commitment to ergonomic efficiency find that fatigue is no longer an adversary!

4.) Deskercise

Deskercise has become the hottest office craze in 2015. This trending practice involves stretching and exercising right behind the desk! When you find that fatigue is taking over your day, look up a few simple deskercises online and put them to use. Many of these easy to follow exercises will revitalize your body and have you ready to conquer the work day. As daily deskercise routines are being recommended by physicians and industry professionals alike, finding new stretches and behind-the-desk movements is becoming easier and easier. Lots of diagrams and videos are available to help you create a routine that works for you. Try it once and you'll be hooked!

5.) Avoid Late Nights

You can't stay up till 2:00 in the morning staring at the tube and expect to have a quality work day. This is a recipe for fatigue that should be avoided at all cost. It's absolutely necessary to ensure 8 hours of sleep on a nightly basis to ensure an energy efficient work day. On the flip side, you don't want to oversleep either. Too much rest can actually make you feel equally groggy as your body is not used to the major sleep swings. Commit to a doable sleep schedule during the week and do your best to maintain it on the weekends as well. Bed times are not just for the little ones anymore! If you want to conquer fatigue, you'll need the right amount of rest to get the job done right!

6.) Collaborate

There's a reason why modern businesses are transitioning from the private cubicles of the past and into open desking configurations! Collaboration in the workplace is an important tool that's beneficial to both you and your business. Working together with your coworkers will have you more engaged in your daily tasks, and thus more likely to conquer fatigue. While you don't have to kick your cubicles to the curb just yet, consider group activities, meals, and strategy sessions to kick your collaboration efforts into high gear. You'll be defeating the fatigue monster while building better relationships with your team mates that will no doubt pay long term dividends.

Ergo Science 101: Dissecting Your Office Chair

Every wondered about the anatomy of your office chair and what makes it ergonomically efficient? Us too! That being said, in today's post we'll be dissecting an office chair from top to bottom in order to find out what makes it so darn comfy. Enjoy!

Office Chair Mechanism

Your chair mechanism is it's central nervous system, and the perfect place to start to today's ergo science class. Most of today's ergonomic office chairs are outfitted with single paddle, dual paddle, and three paddle mechanisms that control the height, tilt, and seat depth of your chair. The best selling office chairs on the market in 2015 offer high tech syncro tilt mechanisms that feature tilt tension knobs designed to prevent those loose falling feelings and provide top notch support. Your chair mechanism is located directly underneath the seat and connects to the pneumatic cylinder and base which we'll cover later. During chair assembly the mechanism will typically need to be attached to your chair base with a few heavy duty bolts. When selection your office chair, it's important to know what type of mechanism your chair has and it's capabilities. This important attribute will play a key role in your day to day functionality!

Office Chair Arms

Arms and armrests are pretty self explanatory. However, they play a key role in office comfort and must be covered in our dissection. If you're considering a new office chair in 2015, shop for models that have width and height adjustable arms. This popular style will offer far more versatility in the workplace. In addition, conference room chairs typically feature fixed arms and lack the ability to adjust. While this is okay for applications in which users will not be seated for longer than a couple hours at a time, adjustable arms are certainly preferred by most ergo professionals. No matter the type of arms your chair is outfitted with, it's important to maintain contact with the armrests as much as possible to gain the most ergonomic benefits possible.

Pneumatic Cylinder

Pneumatic Chair Cylinder

The pneumatic cylinder connects the chair base and mechanism. This important piece acts as the main structural support and controls the height of your seat base. In 2015, nearly all computer chairs, task chairs, executive chairs, and conference chairs come standard with a pneumatic cylinder. If assembly is required, the cylinder should be easily plugged into the central hole located on the chair chair mechanism and plugged into the base. As a side tip, you'll want to have the mechanism attached to the base before plugging in the cylinder. If you've ever dealt with a wobbly office chair, the pneumatic cylinder is the usual culprit. Try checking the connections between the cylinder, mechanism, and base. Reconnect accordingly if needed and your problem should be solved.

Ergonomic Chair Back

Chair backs come in a variety of sizes and shapes that work to serve a variety of features. In today's article we'll focus on the two main types. Mid back office chairs are typically used for office tasking applications and provide directed support to the lumbar area. Taller individuals will find more comfort with high back office chairs in the workplace. Often equipped with head rests, high back office chairs are typically seen in executive and home office environments. When sitting, the user should maintain contestant contact with the chair back. No more leaning forward and slouching over the desk! Simply adjust the angle at which your back is set with the paddle on your chair mechanism we covered first in today's post. Your chair back provides posture friendly features and ergonomic benefits that are quickly lost if you don't use it properly.

Ergonomic Tractor Seat

The seat is an integral chair part that is often overlooked by shoppers. While we have to form good ergonomic habits to keep our bodies in contact with the back and arms of a chair,  our hind ends are always touching the seat! Tractor seats, waterfall seats, and contoured seats are the most commonly used styles found on office chairs in 2015. All offer individual benefits and should be tested accordingly. In addition, the seat size will vary from chair to chair. You'll want to test a variety of models to ensure you find a seat surface large enough to accommodate you properly. Seats can be constructed of high density foam, soft padding, and even memory foams. Dissect your individual needs, wants, and preferences to determine which will help you make it through those long days at the office.

Office Chair Headrest

Often desired but seldom used, chair headrests are a luxury feature that add high end appeal. That being said, adjustable headrests can really come in handy if you use them properly. Headrests can provide excellent neck support when sitting if you maintain contact with them. To utilize your headrest properly, you'll need to adjust the angle at which you sit as well as the the angle of the headrest. Most commonly, executive office chairs are designed with headrests to provide aesthetic value as well as support for taller individuals.

office chair casters

If you're chair is mobile, it's outfitted with casters. Hard casters are designed for wood and tile surfaces while soft casters are designed for carpet. As the casters utilized on your chair will greatly effect the mobility, it's important to know which style you are purchasing. That being said, your chair will still roll on any surface, just not as effectively. In terms of assembly, your base will typically require you to plug the casters in. This is a super simple process that typically requires no tools.

5 Star Office Chair Base

The base is the support platform of your office chair. In the seating world, 5 star bases have become the standard. They offer excellent stability and are preferred for nearly every applications. When it comes to materials there's plenty of options to choose from. Nylon bases are essentially heavy duty plastic and used on less expensive chairs. Polished aluminum and chrome bases are a bit stronger and offer luxury appeal. Metal bases are certainly preferred and should be utilized if possible. That being said, you'll want to wipe down your metal base to prevent tarnishing over time.

Are You Sitting Correctly?

How To Sit Correctly
Good posture is important at home, in the car, and in the office. That being said, it's important to evaluate the ways we sit in order to become healthier and more productive in our daily lives. In today's post we'll evaluate these three common sitting situations and provide the tips you'll need to follow to sit correct!

At Home

We know that proper posture can become an afterthought when your kicking back on the couch. That being said, embracing a few simple practices will help you lounge more comfortably. If you're worried about using your coffee table as a foot rest, don't be! In fact, kicking your feet up when sitting on the couch will actually put less stress on your heart. Have one of those fancy flat screens mounted above your fireplace? Be sure to support your neck properly when sitting and looking up to watch your favorite show. A good pillow will do the trick. You don't want to strain your neck to watch TV, looking up for long periods of time can cause problems you could otherwise avoid by sitting properly. Lastly, consider adding another small pillow behind your when sitting. While your couch is no doubt comfy, adding a lower pillow in the lumbar area will provide even greater support. If we make these practices habits while lounging in our recliners, improved support and comfort is sure to follow!

In The Car

Whether your on your way to work or running up to the local market, it's important to practice good posture in your vehicle. Take your time before speeding out of the driveway. Recline your seat to 110 degrees, or as close to it as possible. If you're vehicle doesn't have an adjustable lumbar support feature, consider using a back pad or even small pillow. It's a big help! Believe it or not, proper hand placement will also affect your posture when sitting behind the wheel. While 10 and 2 is what we've always heard, lower placement like 9 and 3 is actually more posture friendly. An ergonomic sitting position behind the wheel, especially during long road trips, will prevent those annoying body creeks and crazy stretches we see everyone doing at rest stops!

At Work

Most of us spend 8 to 10 hours a day sitting behind the office desk. With this much time spent in our office chairs, practicing proper posture is a must! Start by positioning your computer monitor correctly. You don't want to be staring down or up at your screen, so align your monitor to eye level. Next you'll want to adjust your chair to suit your body's needs. While many will spend thousands on high tech ergonomic office chairs, few take the time to adjust them as needed and end up sitting incorrectly for long stretches. Recline the chair back slightly so there's a comfortable angle between your thighs and torso. Make it a habit to keep your back in contact with your chair as much as possible. Adjust your chair arms, seat height, and tilt tension features as well to find the perfect sit. Integrating helpful ergonomic office accessories like articulating keyboard trays will also help you sit more effectively and healthier! Don't settle for discomfort in the workplace when the solution is right at your fingertips. Adjust your chair, screen, and accessories daily to reach your peak performance levels.
